 Solid Waste & Recycling pickup times:

Please note that solid waste and recycling pick up times can change from time to time, due to weather, route changes, etc.  Solid waste and recycling must be curbside by 7:30 a.m. to ensure that it will be picked up.

Special Dates:

  • 2025 Household Hazardous Waste Days – not yet confirmed

  • 2025 Yard Waste Pick-up Day (Paper leaf bags):  May 20, 2025 2

Garbage Bags & Tags:

Westport Garbage Tags – $2.50/ea and are available for purchase at the following locations:

Kudrinko’s Country Grocer – 22 Main Street, Lower Mountain Mercantile – 20 Main Street, Westport Home Hardware – 4 Church Street, Herlehy Home Building Centre – 10062 Perth Road, or at Town Hall – 30 Bedford Street. Bag Tags to be used on a clear garbage bag.

  •  Westport Small Garbage Bags – $10.00/10 pack – available only at Town Hall

Garbage & Recycling:

  • Expired medications and sharps (needles) should be returned to the pharmacy for disposal.
  • Never put sharps/glass/knives loose in a garbage bag – they can cause injury to handlers.

2025 Solid Waste and Recycling Calendar

Garbage and recyclables are picked up on WEDNESDAYS.

Garbage and Recyclables must be on the curb by 7:30 a.m. on Wednesdays.

Only garbage with a Westport Garbage Tag or in a Westport small bag will be picked up.

Please Note:

  • If either curbside solid waste or recyclables are found to be non-compliant, the material will be left at the curb with a sticker attached, identifying the reason for non-compliance.

  • Garbage containing recycling or hazardous materials will be left at the curb.

  • Residents that choose to utilize the Portland Transfer Station (PTS) directly will pay by weight for disposal.  The current rate is $222/ton and $35/ton for brush.  There is a $10.00 minimum charge.  Scrap metal, electronics and tires (clean/off the rim) are free.  Debit/credit card/cash are accepted at the Portland Transfer Station.  NOTE:  As of March 1, 2025 recyclying will not be accepted at the PTS.
