The Municipality of the Village of Westport is interested in working with new investors and existing businesses. The Economic Development and Tourism Committee will arrange meetings with all of the municipal departments to assist with establishing new businesses or assist existing businesses who want to grow or renovate in the Village. This is a progressive approach, which benefits everyone.
Being a business owner in Westport means enjoying a high quality of life in what many consider a vacation paradise. The Village is rich in history and its sense of community is unmatched anywhere.
Tourism
Every year thousands of people come to Westport, to explore its historical past, to photograph its natural beauty, discover its artistic community, enjoy MUSICWestport – a free music festival held the 3rd Saturday of August, or just to take a deep breath and relax. Westport is an outstanding year-round destination, the four seasons providing diverse beauty, with plenty of recreational activities for visitors of all ages. Hiking, swimming, boating and picnics are just some of the summer fun, while cross country skiing, snowmobiling and snow shoeing are winter excitement.
Located below “Foley Mountain”, the Village of Westport is on the Rideau Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007, on the west end of Upper Rideau Lake. Westport is a 40 minute drive from Kingston and just 60 minutes from Ottawa.
Westport, Ontario is also part of another UNESCO World Heritage Site – Frontenac Arch Biosphere Reserve, an ecosystem for the conservation of biodiversity, with sustainable use.
The downtown core has been preserved as it was in the 19th century, making Westport a beautiful heritage destination for thousands of visitors and cottagers every year. All of the retail businesses in the Village are independently owned and operated. They offer many unique and one of a kind treasures.
