Friends of the Arena (FOTA), an Advisory Committee of Westport, Ontario Municipal Council, was recently created to assist the Village in upgrading the aging infrastructure of the arena. The Committee has compiled a “Wish List” which totals approximately $320,500. To date, we have raised over $94,000 in donations, including a $50,000 prize from AVIVA. We are able to issue tax receipts for income tax purposes.
To date we have insulated the west wall, installed new exit and emergency lighting, upgraded washrooms, added new rubber matting in players benches and some dressing rooms and laid electric cables in the Zamboni ramp. This past summer we installed two 50h.p. compressors, new brine header pipes and a glycol cooling system. The bulk of the work was made possible by a $50,000 award from AVIVA. FOTA has received community support in fundraising efforts and has replaced old overhead lighting with new energy efficient LED lighting, emergency and exit lighting as well as rubberized sport flooring in some dressing rooms and players’ benches. In addition, upgrades have been made to washrooms and the canteen. It is now planning fundraising events to assist in the completion of its seating project (see below).

We also thank Laura for bringing her camera- a great job.
Thanks to committee members who assisted as well as Graham, Nicole and Barb at the registration table.
A wonderful BBQ. A special thank you to Martha and Neil Kudrinko for hosting it and donating their time, equipment and supplies. Ditto to the Pringles of Cottage Country Coffee for the delicious hot chocolate and coffee.
Lastly to our Skating Club for their fantastic support of the event and for all the Moms and the other volunteers who no doubt spoiled a few suppers by providing the delicious cookies.
